If you went to Princeton and Harvard Law, worked in corporate law, politics, and government, and have ties to investment banking, like Ted Cruz (or if you spent years in Washington think-tanks or journalism, like Rich Lowry), it's best to not to try to play the anti-elitist card.

But Trump, who went to expensive private schools, went to Wharton, got his start with a few million from his dad, has ties to big business, big banking, national political figures from both parties, media connections, is worth a few billion, does business with Soros and Buffet, etc - HE can play the "anti-elitist" card?

Don’t you know Trump is the champion of the little guy?

Unless the little guy owns a house where Trump wants to build a parking lot, that is.

Somehow, he seems to get away with it.

Cruz doesn't. At least not once you get outside of his core support.

Maybe people who don't like Trump hate him as a vulgarian, so he gets a pass on the elite thing.

Or maybe he doesn't so much play the anti-elitist card himself as simply benefit from the anti-Establishment sentiment that's in the air.

Or there's more room for disappointment with Cruz because he promises more than Trump.

I'm not saying it's fair or it makes sense, but that's the impression I get.

There's a lot of Schadenfreude when it comes to Ted Cruz, and not just from liberals or Establishment Republicans.
