Rush’s problem is this: he is for Cruz, and correctly says Cruz is 100% conservative. But he also sees that Trump is drawing massive numbers of voters, and has dealt a crippling blow to political correctness and says issue things that no one else will say (til he does).
So Rush is trying to “explain” Trump without explaining his appeal to conservatives-—because theoretically that should all be going to Cruz. But it isn’t. Rush’s problem is the same as 90% of the Cruzers’ problem with Trump-—to understand his appeal, you have to be honest enough to understand WHY Cruz isn’t appealing to those “conservative” and even “very conservative” voters.
Good analysis. I’m also of the opinion that this National disgust for do-nothing repulicans is far deeper than Rush recognizes and Trump has taken the issue and it belongs to him. In other words Trump embodies Jacksonian politics, and I see history paralelling itself with this election cycle.
I thought this post was insightful:
“This is why we continue to give him a pass on his not-so-staunch conservatism. This is why the pundits keep predicting his premature demise. They’re looking at him, instead of us.”
