I strongly favor Cruz for president. I like Trump for what he brought to this campaign and could still support him for president.

Getting the debate back to the issues would be major progress.

There are things I like and dislike about most of the candidates.

Rather than trash any of them for weaknesses, I prefer to argue why I agree or disagree with their positions or actions.

And as much as I despise some of the candidates, I also ask myself whether there are worse choices. I don’t think Carson is cut out for president, but I would strongly prefer him over any Democrat. He would do far less harm.

More lies. Cruz supported Congressional authorization to build the pipeline, which is completely different than supporting a method the developers later tried to use in order to acquire the land for some sections of it.

Amazing, isn’t it, that what was once billed as the premier conservative website has a major following supporting a guy who, even if he does EXACTLY what he promises, is not CLOSE to conservative. And if he does what he has advocated for the vast majority of his life, will be one of the best liberal presidents of our age.

Because unlike Obama, Trump probably will figure out how to do things “right”, sealing the deal for every liberal concept he has.

And in 5 years, when he’s signed amnesty into law as Trump has promised (allowing all the deported back into the country), we’ll never have to worry about another fake conservative winning a presidential election.

I see a lot of hair splitting in the thread about using it to buy out an owner to build a highway vs. something commercial.

If anything, supporting eminent domain only when it’s to build a highway seems worse. I imagine when the government just wants to buy you out for a road, you get offered what they decide is “fair market value”, and there’s a strict cap that they won’t pay out above.

I would think when a zillion dollar casino wants your house for a parking lot (especially if you end up the last holdout after they’ve paid others), you’ll get orders of magnitude more than the actual value.

But, I know. Saint Ted Flanders can do no wrong to some people. So be it. On to the next primary!

I suspect that when Trump began his push to commandeer land to build his casino the fact that he could employ a lot of people was not among the top reasons to continue the push toward his goal.

Some people who have access to a lot of money seem to have a habit of wanting what they want when they want it and simply cannot understand it when someone else values something more than money.

Yes, it is an infrastructure project that will improve national self-sufficiency and security.

It's a private project and private corporations are going to make Yuge profits from it. You can't have it both ways just because you think one way sounds better for your candidate.

-- I remember a time when people on Free Republic were pretty much universally against such sorts of corporate cronyism. --

It's not as black and white as you think. A person can be against the takings in Kelo and Poletown, and not object to taking from some obstinate crank (giving them a HUGE profit) for a PRIVATE project, that the public wants (doctor office, hospital, pipeline, sport arena, casino, etc.) Kelo sucked because what was supposed to go up was literally just a corporate HQ, IIRC. Not even open to the public. Same with Poletown, a factory site (factory never built).

In the video, Cruz was talking about using eminent domain in order to build the border fence/wall. A quintessential “public use.” Not the same as what Trump has supported (in Kelo) and tried to do himself (with respect to Vera Coking).

Trump wins the primaries because...

You didn't get far before your math crapped out on you again. Trump has won exactly 1 primary.

So this idiot Trumpkin “sundance” thinks using eminent domain to build a border wall - the very definition of “public use” - is the same as Trump using eminent domain to build a garage for his limos?

I don't have time to talk to you tonight. So good night.

I don't have the inclination to listen, so good riddance.

Don’t you have a number for the mentally challenged you can give her? I think she needs it.

No they don’t understand. I am astonished at the ignorance of the most common and constitutional laws these noobs exhibit. It really reminds me of how the Obamabots were subservient to the anointed one regardless.

I watched the whole video. Yes Cruz seems to support eminent domain, but in this video it is for a border fence/wall. Maybe he has been a bit hypocritical on the issue, but this is for border security. A top priority.

I support Trump however.

Intelligent people understand the difference between the government taking private property for public use and taking private property for private use (Kelo decision). Cruz is against the latter. Trump is for the latter. Sundance is one of those who doesn’t understand the difference.

Do you support the KeystoneXL pipeline?

Pipelines get built all the time without eminent domain. It is relatively straightforward. You select several possible routes. You then approach all the property owners along each route and you offer them 25% over market. But, and this is the key, all offers are contingent upon all property owners along that path accepting, and only offers to the owners on the first path with all owners accepting will be honored. Because of the contingent offers and competing paths, owners are less likely to hold out for more money for fear that the owners on a competing path will accept first.

DoughtyOne was posting here on FR while you were still a gleam in some Internet troll's eye.

As for you having no "inclination to listen", that's a good thing because you have to know your limitations, and you wouldn't be able to comprehend what one of your betters has to say in the first place.

Now go pound sand you ignoramus.
