How reliable is Harris/BlackBoxVoting? There are no safeguards built into the system?
I’ve been an election official here in VA and we have a number of safeguards built in at the polling place level, then the county and ultimately the state levels. It would be pretty hard to cheat to any significant degree. Is it possible to cheat somewhere along the line? Of course, but there has to be someone clever enough to figure out how.
At least there are systemic safeguards and it’s not entrusted to one person with no witnesses, which seems incredible. At our local polling place all the sheets with the vote tallies have to be cross-signed by six witnesses, and they have to represent both major parties.
Bev Harris is the one that got the DUmmies all in a tizzy over the 2004 election, if that’s any indication of how reliable she and the rest of the organization are.
There are, however, legitimate concerns about these types of voting machines and the fraud that can occur.
In past elections, voters have placed their electronic vote, hit the “submit” button, and seen their vote change before their eyes before it went off the screen.
I figure that with even high school kids as tech savvy as they are, it would be easy for a cheater to find someone plenty skilled enough to rig voting machines.
