The most disappointing moment of Saturday nightâs debate came when Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, and Marco Rubio each embraced the idea that women should register with the selective service, making it possible for America to draft women into ground combat. The argument for registration is based on the new Pentagon policy opening up all combat jobs to women. Women have served in non-combat roles for decades without any serious push for selective-service registration ensuing. In fact, the Supreme Court, in Rostker v. Goldberg (1981), has used the fact that men and women have different roles as justification for rejecting constitutional objections to the all-male draft. We have repeatedly condemned the Obama administrationâs decision to open all combat roles to women, and we have mainly done so by citing a combination of contemporary studies and historical experience to make the case that gender-integrated ground-combat units are less effective than their all-male counterparts. But that is not the only argument. Indeed, there are other fundamental reasons to oppose not just the presence of women in the infantry but their forcible conscription into its ranks. Such a policy inverts natural law and the rules that have grounded our civilization for thousands of years.

Look closely...it would appear the photographer is pointing there gun at the women?
I agree. Israel only does it out of necessity.
Because only homos or statists see a natural right to grab young women and force them to go be in the army when they want to begin a family.
This is exactly why certain people DEMAND equality, they know they will never actually have to suffer it.
Most of the men are pussies.. Do they get an exception?
I haven’t been watching either party’s debate, so I am asking this with ernest curiosity. Did they ask the Democrats this question?
The Democrats are responsible for the policy that puts women into the danger of combat, shouldn’t they be the ONLY party accountable for the logical ends of their policy?
The better question is what in the Constitution let’s you think you have a right to governmentally abduct young people and force them into the work you think is best? For extra credit explain how it isn’t a violation of the involuntary servitude except as punishment for a crime described in the 14th amendment.
Oh, please.
“Grab” young women? Nothing about duty to country, eh? Was David Ben-Gurion a homo or a statist when he extolled participation in the military by women?
"Abducting young people?" Are you making the case that was occurring in WWII, when this country's survival was at stake?
Article 1, Section 8.
To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years;
To provide and maintain a Navy;
To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;
To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;
To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;
Now, of course, you’ll employ much hyperbole and try to make the case that “militia” doesn’t apply to “we the people.” Now... extra credit for you... who IS the militia if it’s not drawn from the populace?
I’m not an Israeli and my country isn’t 15 mules wide. Ben gurion isn’t any role model of mine. Statist or homo. Gurion was probably a sstatist of the socialist bent.
Yes, you would be grabbing them. And anyone who does do deserves what any kidnapper would get.
Duty to country is the creed of those who place the state above the right of the individual. Duty is to the state what the tithing sermon is to the average preacher.
Nowhere in the history of America has a woman had a “duty” to go into forced national servitude.
Bullshine, Authorizing funding and setting legal structure for a militia is not the founders envisioning a forced draft.
and the 14th amendment us utterly clear. No involuntary servitude except for a crime.
The militia is not the US Army and never has been. The militia has never been anything more than national defense. And that is defense, as in repelling an invasion.
And the you might notice who is the militia, it doesn’t include women,,,, sport.
The militia encompasses the people.
You can try to counter this argument all day, but if the need arises, the next draft will likely be extended to women, probably in support roles... sport.
Israel does still draft women:
We are also not a totalitarian Communist state like Stalin's Soviet Union--at least not yet.
Brazilian Jui Jitsu eh? How absurd. Iraq? Afghanistan? We’re occupying third world nonfunctional areas. The concern isn’t what happens in Afghanistan, the concern is what could happen in a prolonged ground war and how the presence of the romantic element diminishes the combat team. You might want to read a bit before embarrassing yourself with comments like that post. Here is a good start:http://www.amazon.com/This-Kind-War-Fiftieth-Anniversary/dp/1574883348
This is what happens when you don’t have a single GOP leader who has taken time to serve in any capacity (I don’t consider SC’s effeminate senator a veteran, although technically he is one). The current benchmark for ‘combat’ is Iraq and/or Afghanistan and that is a grave error.
Of course the problem is that the Romney, Burr, Sununu & Gramm families consider themselves above it all and won’t serve in any capacity in the military. We are a nation of over 300 million people; staffing a few dozen infantry divisions shouldn’t be a problem.
I’ve heard this from a lot of naval guys. FYI, there has been noise about staffing a few ships with 100% female crews. You and I know the problems with that due to lack of upper body strength...still it would be an interesting exercise. Also, while you have first hand knowledge of how arduous sea duty can be, our GOP “leaders” have no clue. Near as I can make, the Trump, Romney, Sununu, Cruz, Christie, Kasich, Carson, etc. families have not put any man in the service since they got off the boat. Resume the draft of young men & this goes away.
