I’d sure want to know what got these people so bitter at the humanity which includes themselves. Do they, too, secretly wish they had never been born? Or, perhaps, in some inverted vengeful anger, swallowed that wish as expressed by someone who would normally have been expected to nurture them?
The Lord as mentioned is the only door out of the trap. However, ordinary people can certainly serve to illuminate the way to that door. A dry “repent” as chanted by people who have never trodden that way of sadness and not been willing to tread it along with those who have, is kind of empty. The problem might not be entirely an acid willfulness. It might also be partly an unbearable pain at life. Just sayin’.

So-called "scientifically enlightened" Western and American civilization is not ascending to higher and higher heights of perfection but rather plunging into darkness and barbarism because rebellious, evil-minded men and women, having turned away from the Light, have fallen into nature worship. Throughout post-Christian America a neo-Gnostic evolutionary pagan cosmology has displaced the Holy Triune God, the Genesis account ex nihilo, our founding Biblical worldview, immutable truth, Moral Law, and everything good and natural. Claiming to be 'progressive, evolutionary, scientific and enlightened,' it declares that the Biblical God is scientifically-passé and that now every superior and/or trans-human is god or goddess and his/her/its own morals-and gender maker.
Increasing numbers of human-deities, each with their own personal truths and moralities, and multiple and ever evolving 'genders'---this is pagan polytheism issuing in idolatry and the return of human sacrifice and cannibalization of body parts on altars of idolatrous self-worshippers:
