If we lose faith in the integrity in our elections, we will have anarchy.
I do not like our current method here of an electronic-touch-screen-only machine.
Our prior method was to mark a paper ballot that was optically scanned, and I liked it a lot better.
If questions of funny-business arise now, there is no paper ballot to go back to.
Just the 1’s and 0’s on a hard drive.
Agree. Every time I hit “Cast Vote”, on our electronic-touch screens, I wonder....who really got THAT vote. Cynical? Maybe. Just feels like it disappears into the machine ;-)
I know; I worry. When I was involved, it was the old IBM punch cards. At least you could grab a precinct’s box(es) and do a manual re-count. Then you had to assume and hope that all ballots were there — that someone hadn’t made some disappear, or add a few.
I understand that in the last couple of elections, with electronic voting, voters have actually watched as their votes changed after touching the “submit” button. It’s just awful. I know there must be a way to fight that, but it’s above my pay grade. Hopefully, Trump can get a handle on it as he seems to find the skilled people.
We used to have the optical scan (thought there could be some funny business with that, though not so much in my area - everyone seemed to do it by the book and I always looked at my number on the scanner. The Dim Gov and Legislature decided to change our state to all absentee voting a few years ago. I hate it! First, I think that allows for a lot of potential fraud and second, I always liked going to the voting place and in the little booth and voting - made me feel more like I was participating and doing my civic duty.
