If you're presenting yourself as an honest truth-teller and make a statement like that without an indication that it's not literally true, you'll get in trouble -- and deserve it.
For example, the British tabloids presented Carter's comments as an endorsement of Trump, but everybody knows they don't aim at 100% accuracy. If you've got a reputation to lose, you've got to be more careful.
In public remarks, Jimmy Carter said he would support Trump over Cruz.
That's not an "endorsement".
So Cruz WAS "mistaken" - so much for that "keen and incisive" mind.

False. Carter endorsed Trump over Cruz. That was the entire point. Liberals, Rockefeller Republicans and the MSM in general prefer the furthest left candidate they can convince Republicans to vote for. Nothing new about that x.
