Might have been Asimov, but it wasn't The Naked Sun.

Close enough. The planet in the story was called "Solaria," and I believe each of the few people left owned and lived on a continent. Showing up on someone's continent violated their privacy and was punishable by death. Robots did all the work. Boggled my mind as a kid, just as Muslims do as an adult.

Hmmm. Maybe so! Not how I remember it in Naked Sun, but the Solarians were murderous to strangers in Foundation and Earth.

Thanks for the correction, it’s been quite a while since I’ve read the Foundation series.
