There is no disconnect. I am turned off by play actors. Jesus is not a political prop for anyone.
Cruz is genuine about his faith, as was the founding fathers from where he gets his cues. Ever person running gets there values from somewhere. A president’s values are important, think of the Clintons, Bushes, Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi.
We need someone whose values reflect Jesus command to “feed my sheep.”
Interesting bit of history, US revolution in 1776 was founded on principles and values taken from the bible. Just a few years later came the French Revolution, based on the humanitarian notions of liberty of men, not much mention of God or Jesus. They both produced different results. Same goes for how Mexico, Central and S.American was conquered by the Spanish, look how that has turned out.
Where leaders get their values from does matter. So if our values now reflected the founding fathers, we would be in much better shape. The Bible is more than heaven and hell, it has values that teach how people should relate to and treat each other.
Remember the Golden rule, and “love they neighbor as thyself.”

Scripture was a major part of their vocabulary. When people read the Bible on a regular basis, Scripture flows from them.
CRUZ is expressing his deeply held beliefs. It seems foreign to some people, but not to those who do the same thing.
...and you just used Him as one.
If Jesus is not a prop... and He is not ... why did you make a cheap remark making Jesus a prop?
Just asking?
