“So, he would have covered for the liar?”

In this case Lott would have been the liar, which I have no doubt he is and was. Too bad there wasn’t a Republican Senator with balls enough to call him what he was. It’s easy to say what you would have done when it didn’t happen. I believe, but could be wrong, that Patton Boggs is the largest lobby firm and that BGR, Haley Barbour’s lobby firm, is the second largest. So the two largest lobbying firms in DC are both very much against and hate Senator Ted Cruz. What a Surprise that’s as good as any endorsement has had.

If Trent Lott had been on the stage at half-time of the Super Bowl and called Mrs. Clinton a whore, the press wouldn’t report it. But The Hill finds Trent when he makes a swipe at a Conservative and makes a big deal of it.

Trent, you are being a useless tool for the left. Oh, I repeat myself.

That is exactly what Trump is running on. Funny you brought it up.

Trump supporters find his bombast and wild promises ‘emotionally satisfying.’

So much so that they just love him so much.

And they love the fact that he insults, pulls no punches, goes after people with wickedness and without tact.

What Ted did was not stupid. He drew a line in the sand that has needed to be drawn for many years.

The Senate is not a boys’ (and girls) club. It’s supposed to represent the people.

That's one of the many issues with Republican spinelessness that made me start wondering about them. No one in the Party defended him or Thurmond, and Lott's comments were completely harmless, being made to an old man on his 100th birthday. This all the while the Democrats were bending over backwards to heap praise on Robert C Byrd. Huge double standard.

If Lott's comments were too racist for Senate leadership, why didn't he just lose his seat?

It accomplished one thing, for sure. It made me an instant Cruzbot, Cruzzer, Cruzfanboy, etc. That was the day I decided I will support him for president. Nothing that has happened since has led me to believe I make a bad choice.

“Well Trent they called you a liar every other place. LOL!”

One of the biggest lies Trent Lott told was to claim he’s conservative, he is and has been a big government guy. The real reason he wants Cruz defeated is because Cruz has brought more attention to “Crony Capitalism” and the incestuous relationship between the lobbyist, democrats and the GOPeers.

I’d guess Clinton had a stack of stuff on Lott. Lott always struck me as a Beau Brummell, clothes horse, dapper dandy ladies’ man. That’s just what my radar said.

I wrote a piece, at the time, for my Conservative Web Site on The Trent Lott Affair, which endeavored to put Lott & the bullies that cowed him, into a realistic perspective. His behavior & treatment within the Republican Party, were early indicators of the sort of damage that the "Republican Establishment" & Karl Rove & company, were doing to our chances for a tolerable future.

You can trace some of the present mess--particularly the present massive distrust of the Party apparatus--to the behavior at the time.

As long as the majority of voters agree with you, that’s not a problem. I don’t think they will, but I’m obviously not omniscient.

“Betcha, if you took a poll asking ‘Who is Trent Lott’

The vast majority of people would say ‘Who is that’”

Not around here, they would say “he’s that lying GOP-E bastard that calls him self a conservative”.

Not exactly. I appreciate it in Congress. I just don’t think it plays well nationally.

As another poster pointed out it Trump seems to have made out pretty well by the tactic.
