Trent Lott (R-Miss.) says he would take a hard line with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) if he was still running the Senate.
Cruz, a presidential candidate, assailed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in a floor speech last year, accusing him of lying about a deal related to the Export-Import Bank.
Lott, who served as Senate majority leader in 2002, suggested Cruz's speech was beyond the pale. "Having been majority leader, I've never had someone stand on the Senate floor and call me a liar," Lott said in an interview with The Hill's Molly K. Hooper. "In fact, if I had been in the Senate at that time I would have moved to have him removed from the Senate chamber physically."
Lott, who is now co-chair of the public policy practice at Squire Patton Boggs, talks 2016 politics and his preferred candidate, Ohio. Gov John Kasich (R), in the video above.

As a Mississippian I’m embarrassed by Lott and Cochran. As I recall Lott as Republican Senate Majority leader allowed democrats to share that post Does anyone remember which democrat?

Absolutely— and at that time Mr. Lott was MS democrat congressman’s aide.... that’s all. A career lickspittle trough eater. And... a liar in his own right.

Senate Rule XIX: "No Senator in debate shall, directly or indirectly, by any form of words impute to another Senator or to other Senators any conduct or motive unworthy or unbecoming a Senator."
Seems like there's a circular "catch 22" problem there. How does the Senate censor members for conduct unbecoming a senator if senators can't bring it up on the floor? And really, given that senators are politicians, how can one seriously say that lying is unsenatorial?
But it's actually in the rules that senators aren't supposed to do what Cruz did.
You see, nobody Likes Ted, and that is why he should quit!

He could have done that just as easily without using a word deliberately intended to piss them off. He accomplished nothing by that other than firing up his base, and alienating everyone else.
Do I think McConnell deserved it? Sure. Doesn't make it any less stupid.
Maybe thats not what everyone wants in their candidate but it suits me just fine.
Well, just because you personally find something emotionally satisfying doesn't make it smart politically. Being right on all the issue but being unelectable is pointless.
Ted fashions himself the next Reagan. But Reagan would never have shown the nastiness and lack of humility that are Ted's calling cards. That really stinks, because I'd love to have supported him otherwise.

Wasn’t that a disgusting spectacle. If Trent and the other senators had the courage of Ted Cruz, we’d have been spared years of the Clinton’s.
