If it seems like Obama is just spouting lunacy, keep in mind that he is speaking to his core (urban blacks). His mission was to preserve their preferential treatment while continuing the funding for their urban reservations, and for the most part he has succeeded. He rants about gun violence because that is the most visible symbol of their deteriorating condition in this country; employment, education, and assimilation were never the goals.
While most productive people view Castro’s communist revolution in Cuba as a complete failure, the very bottom of the socio-economic ladder there (blacks working in agriculture) probably did see an improvement in their daily lives (through access to education and healthcare, if nothing more). The flight of their educated non-blacks was ignored as long as funding from the USSR could maintain an illusion of prosperity; since that dried up they’ve been doubling their efforts to escape the island plantation. Think of American blacks as those black Cubans; they are still laboring under the misconception that Obama has somehow “succeeded” (though Ferguson & Baltimore, Obama’s true legacy, would indicate that less and less blacks believe anything has gotten better).
