Marco and the K St. Restoration: I went to see Marco Rubio's town hall this afternoon in Salem, New Hampshire. It was only a few miles from my hotel-I really had no excuse. I wanted to find out: Was Rubio really as slick and insubstantial in this setting as John Edwards? Answer: No. He's slicker. He's slicker, in part, because he at least seems a bit spontaneous,** with a slightly goofy, human quality. I admit this is hard to judge seeing him once -- maybe he always lets his 8-year-old son sit on his stool during his stump speech. But it's hard to deny the appeal.
When it comes to substance, Rubio draws on an inventory of well-prepared rhetorical modules, with just enough policy to sound sophisticated, that can be inserted where necessary to handle, say, the how-would-you-handle-ISIS question (Sunni ground army!) or disability benefits (get rid of phony claims!). There's not much sacrifice involved in any of Rubio's proposals -- even avoiding budget apocalypse, which he claims to be very concerned about, is just a matter of raising the retirement age and slowing benefit hikes for the well-off. Nothing that hasn't been floating around Washington for years. There's a heavy emphasis on electability. Big, difficult questions (like robots taking everyone's jobs) are ignored. Tellingly, however, Rubio has added a Trump Module, where he alludes to anger at stagnant wages.

Amnesty is one of the seminal issues of this election (indeed it is the issue that arguably put Donald Trump on the map). By choosing Rubio as our nominee, the issue of amnesty automatically becomes forfeit before the general contest even begins. Romney had no credibility to campaign or argue against Obamacare for he himself was the grandfather of it. Likewise, Rubio will have no credibility - after being the chief architect of the Rubio/Schumer Gang of 8 bill - to make a case against amnesty. To make matters worse, Rubio is still for a pathway to citizenship. The only difference now is that Rubio's plan put's a few hoops (that will likely never materialize) in that path before we get there. If you are a mushy middle, establishment, RINO, Chamber of Commerce fan-boy type, you might find Rubio's position appealing. If you are a conservative however that cares about getting this illegal immigration issue solved, then you would be better serverd to look elsewhere than Rubio. Lastly, whatever hopes you want to project onto Rubio, remember that when he ran for the Senate in 2010 he vociferously opposed amnesty only to turn around later to stab us in the back on this issue once he was in office.
The fact that Rubio is treated as a serious candidate shows just how much the GOPe fears the Trump insurgency.
Rubio supports amnesty.
Rubio used to attend homosexual parties.
I do not support Rubio!
Christie calling Rubio bubble boy, gaggler (look up meaning of gaggler in Urban Dictionary)
Rush calling Rubio âfull-throatedâ conservative
Subliminal programming?
Telling us without telling us?
Make NO mistake there is one MAJOR reason Rubio, Grahamnasty, McCain etc want to allow the Immigration flood to continue.
Because the don’t have the guts to and won’t cut spending. The ONLY way to keep this government open after taxing those already here is to allow more in. They need the expanded tax base. They want the Billions of dollars of taxes from wages that get sent back to Pack-e-stan, Mehico, India etc tax free now.
It keeps the Ponzi scheme going as the hole gets bigger and bigger.
When this fails they will attack our Private retirement accounts. The Rube is just the shyster to pedal it to the uneducated masses.
Yeah, the “full-throated” part seemed an odd thing to say.
Rubio is a menace to America and Americans.
Mario Rubco is a slick smooth talker.
If you want someone to give your country away while telling you it’s a good thing, he’s your guy.
I think your analysis here is right, and the American people are wrong. I shudder to think what they will elect on November 8.
