For the first time during his seven years in office, President Obama visited a mosque on Wednesday to share a message of 'religious tolerance and unity.'
"We're one American family, and when any part of our family starts to feel second class or separate or targeted, it tears at the very fabric of our nation," the president said.
Muslims, he continued, are "some of the most resilient and patriotic Americans you'll ever meet."
He even spoke about how "Islam has always been part of America."
"Islam has always been part of America," he said, detailing the beginnings of the religion among African slaves brought to America. He also pointed out that Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Virginia statute for religious freedom that the "Mohammedan" should have his faith protected in the United States.
"The very word Islam comes from 'Salam' - peace," he said. "The standard greeting is 'As-Salaam-Alaikum' - 'Peace be upon you,'" he explained. "Like so many faiths, Islam is rooted in a commitment to compassion and mercy and justice and charity. "Whoever wants to enter paradise, the prophet Mohammad taught, let him treat people the way he would love to be treated," he said as the audience applauded.
"For Christians like myself, I'm assuming that sounds familiar," he continued. [...]
Obama pointed out that the founding fathers also supported the religion of Islam.
"Jefferson and John Adams had their own copies of the Koran," he said. "Benjamin Franklin wrote, that even if the Mufti of Constantinople were to send a missionary to preach to us, he would find a pulpit at his service."
He also recalled the history of mosques in America - pointing out that the oldest surviving mosque was in Iowa and that the first American mosque was built in North Dakota.
Obama went on to encourage Christians to defend Muslims-Americans when their religion was being attacked.
"An attack on one faith is an attack on all our faiths," he said, noting that "we have to be consistent in condemning hateful rhetoric ... none of us can be bystanders to bigotry."
Obama also denounced the rise in "extremist elements" who have turned Islamic text into a violent ideology. Coincidentally, he was speaking at the Islamic Society of Baltimore, which has a long history ofties to extremism. In 2010 it was even placed under FBI surveillance.
Well, they are responsible for the formation of the USN & USMC!
Jefferson and Adams knew a LOT about "Muhammedans", because they studied the koran.
And they had no respect at all for what it teaches.
Our founding fathers KNEW that muslim and "American" can NEVER co-exist peacefully.
They were more blunt than Trump about actually killing them.
Not "slowing down immigration until we know what the hell is going on"
That would be laughed at in 1803 because it was too "gentle".
Really appreciate your post re Jefferson and Adams and their views on Islam.
Though I’ve read about it I couldn’t remember specifics. Thanks!
This @sshole commie, muslim jihadist has done more harm to this country than Osama Bin Laden...
You forgot "queer".
Dealings with Mellimelli, Colorful Envoy from Tunis
A salute from the guns of the frigate USS Congress announced the arrival of the ambassador from Tunis. Sidi Soliman Mellimelli and his attendants were greeted at the Washington Navy Yard on the morning of Nov. ï³ï°ï¸ï°ïµ, byfull military honors and a crowdof curious onlookers. The curious were not to be disappointed by the appearance of the rst Muslim envoy to the United States â a large gure with a full dark beard dressed in robes of richly embroidered fabrics and a turban of ne white muslin. He is right it was muslim slavers that sold many of the Africans into the new world
This article simply HAS to be made up. If that man actually said those things, no hope remains for this nation. Not a drop of hope is there.
OZero is a muzzy and doesn’t even try to hide it anymore. Nobody except a muzzy goes to a mosque and comes out alive. Those are muzzy-only places not to be defiled by infidels.
The Barbary pirates were Islamic and preyed upon shipping. After the Revolution the American shipping no longer had the protection of the British Navy or the funding to pay ransom to free American shipping or sailors.
Many of the contemporaries wrote about this in their letter to each other.
âIslam Has Always Been Part of Americaâ, that’s somewhat true - We’ve been at war with Islam for over 200 years, beginning with the Barbary Wars. The Marines can thank Islam for the inspiration for the famous line in the Marine Corps hymn.
This Obama guy is quite a scholar!
“Jefferson and John Adams had their own copies of the Koran,” he said. He forgot to mention that the copies were located in the privy.
Islam had absolutely nothing to do with the founding of America. This is all happy talk nonsense to pass votes to the Democratic party, and also weaken America.
Islam is murdering Christians and burning and looting churches all over the Muslim world. Egypt just burned 40 churches and they are not being rebuilt. Obama said nothing about the Muslim Brotherhood, elected by the Muslims of Egypt, who did this, pure hateful violence! He sheds alligator tears for Muslims who are supposedly under duress in America, but in fact it is the Jews who have seen an increase in bias crimes against them. And if they checked it would be coming from Muslims, as they are doing all over Europe.
On Islam, Obama is in self-denial of their atrocities that occur because of the tenets of their religion. Obama speaks of “hijackers”, but why are there millions of them, these are not isolated whackos, these are people who believe in Islam and supported by Al Azhar university, founded in 970, the oldest and highest regarded university on Sunni Islam. They also said ISIS were not apostates to Islam.
So I thought.
Winston Churchill
Nothing has changed...
It’s NOT his ‘first mosque visit’ - only the first one in the Us
He’s visited mosques around the world in the last 7 years - never stopped by for a look-see at any of the great Cathedrals, tho.
Islam is a war plan.
