"I have Windows 7. If I wanted to know if these programs were automatically downloaded onto my computer would I find that information by searching the Control Panel home /programs and features/ install updates ?"

Yes.

Click on 'View Installed Updates' (wait a send or two for it to load up), then scroll down the list until you find the offender and uninstall it.
