Anybody who watched all of Ted Cruz's far too long, rambling, overly flamboyant speech last nite would say that was his Howard Dean moment!
The delegate count is not relevant. No one even cared how many delegates were up for grabs until the media broke it out, and no one cares (or even knows) how many delegates are necessary for the nomination even now.
The significance of the caucus is simply optics and momentum. Trump is a brand, not a platform, and his brand is now tarnished because he did not win. I believe that New Hampshire is now a must win for him, and I concede that his win seems pretty likely given his big poll numbers there. But he has lost momentum and the aura of invincibility, and since he is a brand that is a significant loss.
Cruz guys like me can’t get too cocky about it because you’re right on the ground game point. Trump’s approach to the Iowa campaign was effective enough to collect 24% of the votes, and Cruz’s approach is not scaleable to the entire nation, and perhaps not scaleable to any other location. There is little evidence that the lengthy and expensive investment Cruz made in Iowa tells us anything about the future campaign.
But the simple fact is that the guy who calls himself a winner is *not* the winner today. The media is no longer covering him as a winner, and he’s not acting like a winner. I think he likely will be a winner in NH next week, but he’s damaging his brand, and his chances, even now.
That’s wierd because both of my sons and myself think Trump is on the autism spectrum. He just blurts things out without even thinking about what he’s saying.
Interesting spin, but... ugh, no. Trump, a New York guy, with flash and sass, comes into IA, where Cruz has been tub-thumping and preach-a-fying for two years, and both are locked into a threesome with an amnesty candidate and you say Trump's brand is tarnished. Ugh, again, no.
Fact is, Cruz could not put them away. I understand the polls. But the arm-twisting system and the easy dirty-tricks availability make IA more than just show up and vote. But, with Cruz tactics he still could not put the competition away. IA is the best Cruz will ever do and should be the worst that Trump will ever do. So who is tarnished?
Your posts suggest that you expect Trump to be the nominee but also that, like him, you may feel free to go to auto insult against Cruz supporters because you imagine Trump winning without us IF he is nominated. Ask JEB! and Moral Monster Mitt Romney how that strategy worked for them. Take NOTHING for granted. It would pay for him and you to keep civil tongues in your heads lest we be witnessing the swearing in of Hillary or Bernie in January 2017.
Oh I wish we could hear Hillary behind the scenes. Watch for bruises on Bill. She did like to throw things at him.
Brand loyalty is a powerful thing; I don’t tend to recognize the tarnish on brands I like either. Trump’s brand is that he’s the winner, but in reality today he isn’t.
Be careful of prognosticating when your tag line speaks of false prophets. You might be right, but then again you might not.

Right now my hope for a humbler, smarter and wiser Trump appears to be wishful thinking.
That does bring the Cruz victory in perspective.

I agree, if trump had been as good a strategist as everyone says he would have paid the money and set up that five percent ground game it would have taken to win....
While true Cruz is ahead by one delegate, this loss... and that is all we can call it. The loss by Trump has forced the issue, almost everyone on here who has supported Trump has said he would win every state. They have also said that, in those states he would win in a landslide. Yesterdays Hawkeye Cauci showed that even with the increased turnout, a yuge sign of a Trump win, he lost to Cruz. He almost lost to Rubio as well. While I don’t think this loss will do Trump in completely, it very certainly bursts the facade of invincibility that many have attributed to his candidacy.
I think personally that there is a very big chance for Christie and possibly Rubio to challenge Trump in New Hampshire. I think Cruz will do ok not great but ok. Then it moves to SC; and if one of the moderates beat Trump, and Cruz does ok in New Hampshire. Then we can see Cruz possibly challenge the ability of Trump to win the nomination in SC. Then we might see a repeat of last night.
So in the total delegate count, an 8 to 7 separation doesn’t mean much, however the WIN for Cruz and the LOSS for Trump could mean a lot.

Trump supporters cannot stomach anything nice said about any other candidates.
BS. It didn’t help Huckabee or Santorum, now did it? I’m not one who thought my guy was going to win Iowa. However, with regard to the Rubio surge - something is mighty fishy about that.

Thats rich. Ive use to do just that and quit not too long ago after being belittled and demeaned for my support of trump. Im not gonna be bush or mittens and just take it. Thats why I and millions support trump. He doesn’t take any shit. He can be very petty at times but boy can he give it back. He’s the ONLY ONE who has put the clintons in their place. THE ONLY ONES. Everyone else has bowed down to them for fear of insulting them. He’s the only one who wants to build a wall. He’s the only one who wants to halt muslim immigration. IMO these are the biggest subjects this country has to address. Now can he get it done alone? Probably not. He’s gonna need help. However, IMO, he’s the only one willing to get it done.
