Ben knew his campaign had unraveled, and he needed an excuse for how poorly he was going to do. He left for Florida to set this up himself, intentionally, to give himself that excuse. Ben is not the first to claim that the only reason he lost is because of a “stab in the back.”

CNN had reported that Carson was going home after Iowa and was not going to NH or SC. It was not a big leap of logic to assume that meant he was dropping out. You can blame the Cruz people for getting it wrong (but then apparently so did Fox and CNN initially), but it is hardly dirty politics or cheating to tell Carson’s supporters what is being reported by the news media.

If Carson was suspending his campaign, is it not his right to make the announcement...NOT Ted Cruz?
