And...this is definitely an instance when I am eager to be utterly wrong. Cruz’s whole campaign is based on the assumption/premise/hope that there really are hundreds of thousands of (more or less) conservatives who are largely side-lined and who will come out for him. I will begin praying that that is truly the case.

If that were the case, President Obama would've never happened in the 1st place. Look how close Gore came in 2000, even.

Its gonna be a close election.

I give it to Hillary because of demographics, the women vote, the black vote, Hispanic vote, union vote and just plain ol’ fashioned ballot fraud.

As badly wounded as she is, enough people in this country simply won’t pull the levers for a Republican.

And she is counting on becoming the first woman President.

I don’t think it would have been that close in 2000 if it had been another republican. That ‘compassionate conservative” slogan was totally uninspiring, even insulting, as it implied conservatism wasn’t compassionate to begin with.
Just like his later mantra ‘Islam is the religion of peace,’ which implies other religions are not, I think it supressed enthusiasm.
