I have an M1 Garand from the CMP. Springfield, 1944. Had to take it apart and clean all the damn cosmoline out of it. I also refinished the stock, wasn't going to hurt the collector value. Some dumbass in Greece carved his initials in it. The metal was flawless, not a speck of rust. I think I paid $435 for it.
My brother found an m1 carbine at a gun show, similar vintage to my Garand. Still had the green canvas extra ammo carrier on the stock. I think he paid about $300.
