And they’re NOT Irish....they’re English or some such.

” He has flip-flopped and dissembled on issues like immigration and trade.”

I agree to disagree with you

On Trade I with Milton Freedmen. Ethanol is bad for my engine, it is bad because the Fed. G’ement chooses winner and losers.

What Ted Cruz has accomplished is calling out the RINOs and publicly speaking out about it.

My parish has always blessed throats.

I still get coughs and colds from time to time, along with the sore throat companionship to them.

Still, I guess every little bit helps!

Without the blessing, it could have been worse, I suppose!

“Anyway.....the blessing of the throat....go to hell, what’s that all about?”

Oh yes - I’ve had my throat blessed in numerous churches over many years.

More info here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blessing_of_the_Throats

BTW - does your church bless animals? My sister’s church does and they’ve always taken their dogs there (they do the blessing outside, not in the church). It’s for St. Francis of Assisi: http://www.americancatholic.org/Features/francis/blessing.asp

Totally agree! I think he’s the best!

I remember when Tony Snow had his radio show (prior to becoming press secretary for W). There used to be a daily thread here on FR that went on during the show and he sometimes would respond to a post (loved Tony for many reasons). One FReeper on the thread (don’t recall her alias) called him Senator “cute as a button”. Of course, there’s so much more to him than that - he’s smart and principled. I called his office one time and said I was adopting him as one of my senators. Look who I’m stuck with: Maria Can’t-do-well and Patty Osama Mama Murray (often mentioned as the dumbest Senator).

On the Trump rally thread for today, someone said that Huckabee was going to endorse Trump in Arkansas next Tuesday - guess we’ll see.

On this I agree with you.

All government promoted ethanol subsidies have done is get votes in Iowa—especially this time of year every four years—ruin my small engines, and caused the price of meat to skyrocket.

Corn is food—for humans and animals—not fuel.

We need to drill, baby, drill!

If the government wants to throw our money around promoting anything energy related, let them help Detroit convert gas engines to natural gas and help fast track the building NG fueling stations.

The USA is the Saudi Arabia of natural gas.

The natural born citizen controversy did not die with Obama.
If it had been proven he was born in Kenya guaranteed 100% of Freepers would say he was NOT a NBC and not eligible for the presidency.

OMG.....and to AB also.....wow....serious, I never heard of blessing of throats.

WE DO, ahem, bless animals. Now our former Pastor, Father Jim, had a dog, and maybe that’s why we did the animal thing, I dunno. I don’t know why we never blessed the throats but on some level I’m smiling in muse about it.

I man that whole thing threw me for a loop! First, we got two important people quit our choir and one of them was the really main singer of our males. So the males left were split between the sopranos and the altos and go to hell ain’t I sitting next to another very handsome man, which was okay with me. And we had to snuggle real close together cause the idea was that the women would carry the men because while these men sing quite well, they are very timid. And I’m giving DEnnis, that’s his name, a pep talk and we’re crouching together as I kind of sing in his ear....sheesh.....it was kind of cool.

And the choir conductor was the Cantor so she goes up to the altar to cantor and leaves the choir stand in the pew and the ushers had to move it so I could get communion, me and Dennis.

I’d heard about this blessing of the throat thing....my choir director told me about it before mass as we waited for the earlier mass to let out.

But my goodness they had a priest and a deacon...maybe another priest it was so damn confusing....and people were trying to get out to go home but everybody was in line for blessing of the throat.

Father Tom had on a really pretty vestment today...a dark, forest green with what was a golden bell embroidered on it with the bell’s “clapper” being what looked like human hands folded in prayer.

He’s too much, huh?

So there I am standing in some line or another, I have no idea, but Diane Feinstein comes rushing over and moves me bodily into another line, in which I get my throat blessed and still never done such a thing ever before.

“It will not do for Father Tom to kiss you while blessing your throat,” she whispered as we finally got out of there, somehow managing to get four bulletins and three Dioscan newsletters between us.

Which is not to say Father Tom would have done such a thing but....well I’m glad the deacon blessed my throat and even at that I was a very confused mess.

Anyway....thanks for indulging me. It’s been just fifteen minutes since Diane Feinstein left as we had to stop at the WAWA and the Walmart, as is her wont.

I’m trying to unwind and my mind still spins.

STATE OF THE UNION (CNN): Closing round-table comments

Two women both wanting most just to see Trump lose.

A previous STATE OF THE UNION had White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough and the host failed to ask about Benghazi and what did Panetta do when Obama gave the order to ‘do everything possible to save those lives’ and why no one else seems to have followed that order. (Obama claims he gave that order after receiving the call from Benghazi, during his debates with Romney.)

Jake Tapper also failed to ask McDonough anything about ISIS. CNN should get a more enlightened host or feed Tapper more relevant questions to current events.

Trump has an event scheduled in Arkansas that day. That location is way out of rig with his scheduled Iowa, NH and SC appearances, which is what leads to that speculation. Well, that plus Huckabee's campaign is sucking pond water.

I'm with you, wait and see. Same with the claim of pending endorsements from sitting US Senator or Representative.

Cruz said this morning he was not against ethanol, just the mandates and the subsidies. He said he was in favor of ethanol and that if the government would allow other grades of ethanol, they could actually increase production and sell more of it. No mention of being bad for engines.

Cruz said he was also against subsidies for oil and gas. I wonder if he will say that in Texas.

Pat,

I was going to respond to your post last week wrt wishing you had a man for company and didn’t get to it. Trust me, I totally understand - would be nice to have dinner or a drink or a movie with now and then and just generally share discussions - both serious and fun ones. Still can turn a head now and then but not as much as when I was in my 20’s and 30’s. Can’t help it - I like men and they’ve seemed to like me (I’m saying this with humility - it’s a conversational and fun thing, not necessarily a looks one). Anyway, guess I need to put myself out there more - for so long it’s been long work hours, home and spending time with my nephew and other family members. I’ll have to start checking out dudes at church more ;-)

At any rate, sounds like you are a real dude magnet. You Go Girl!!! (with the caveat, except for Fr. Tom, of course ;-)
