The polls show he’s very few Republicans’ second choice in the primary and polls right down at the bottom with Jeb against Sanders or Hillary. There has always been a niche in the Republican party of isolation and protectionism that Pat Buchanan and to some extent Ron Paul focused on. But it’s not the ideology that drives most of us.

Very strange... When I have asked people who are “non-political” about their opinion of Ted Cruz, or Rubio... most of them do not have a clue who they are. So of course their negatives are lower. The negative comments I have heard from them about Trump have been based either on late night comedy routines or statements from Democrat news makers such as Hillary who are very afraid of Trump. I have not heard any of the “non-political” say that Trump is a “joke” candidate. That is what the Republican establishment spent the first several months after he announced trying to convince people of. Your argument sounds more like something from an establishment stooge than a typical Cruz supporter.
