All we know for certain is the spokesman admitted he sent it.

Does this mean it was approved and authorized by the campaign?

I am not sure.

I need to hear from Cruz before I will pass judgment.

Well, I'm sure he'll be asked about it.

But I certainly wouldn't think this would be sent out without the candidate personally authorizing it. We'll know if he fires his campaign manager.

If your opponent presents something damaging to you, ordinarily you don’t repeat it.
But here, where it’s a shot-to-the-foot, what does Cruz do? Hope to make a respectable showing Monday, then do damage control? Or attempt it now?

I’m leaning towards now, “It’s not that big a deal and I expect the voters of Iowa will see that, etc.”
Keep in mind the mailer was sent to desultory voters they hoped to pick up. It’s a lousy thing to happen to him this late in the game.

It was mailed out using the campaign's postal permit (not one of his PACs). Of course it was approved and authorized by the campaign.
