Rarely and perhaps not in modern times has a presidential campaign more resembled the classic 1957 film, "A Face in the Crowd." Written by Budd Schulberg and starring Andy Griffith, Patricia Neal and Walter Matthau, the storyline follows an Arkansas hayseed named Larry "Lonesome" Rhodes (Griffith), whom Marcia Jeffries (Neal) discovers in a county jail.
Jeffries has a local radio show on which she interviews interesting characters. She finds Rhodes irresistible and puts him on the air. Rhodes becomes a sensation, eventually climbing the ladder to his own network TV show and then, as politicians approach him for endorsements, a self-described kingmaker...

I’m not familiar with the Jack Smurch character.
Yes, like Bert Convy who actually was in the original B’way production of Cabaret.
I have Larry as Sammy Fong on the original cast album of Flower Drum Song. I guess he wore a rubber band around his eyes!
principled?????
Great flicks. I never appreciated Marlon Brando until later in life. I watched Julius Ceasar (1953) recently, and Brando delivered a masterly (masterful) performance as Mark Antony.
I hope my comment doesn’t revive this stupid thread, but, as a very young girl, I loved Arthur Godfrey. My dearest Aunt Wilma listened to his radio program every day, without fail. I remember the day he fired Julius La Rosa!
haha— That is good— Glen Beck really does make sense as Lonesome.. a crazier lonesome..
Thanks!

Of course trump is principled! He’s got LOTS of principles! How many do you want? Pro-abort or pro-life? Pro-wealth tax? Pro-tax cut? Single-payer? Free market? Universal healthcare? Deport ‘em all? Touch back amnesty? Pro 2nd Amendment? Pro assault weapons ban?
trump’s got LOTS of principles! On any side of any issue! What ever you’d like! You want a particular principle! He’s got it!
Jeff Sessions, Willie Robertson, Sarah Palin, Jerry Falwell, Jim Robinson and I can't see through him, but you can. You are amazing.
Jerry Falwell Jr.
Yep, a candidate for all seasons.
Both sides of a coin.

Yes, my parents always spoke about that! Awful story, really.

"I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose any voters, okay? It's like incredible."
It sounds like he's saying that his followers are mindless. What do you think he's saying?
I'm humbled. But really, Trump is amazing.
Cruz shrinks.
So what I hope for is that when you holier than thou Cruz accolytes finally are forced to accept what the rest of us here on this forum realized already, that Cruz won't win the nomination, in part because he couldn't win the election, that you give up the Cruzade and join in the important battle to win in November. Trump is right on immigration, and that is issue no. 1 that preserves the ability of conservatives to win on the other issues later. He is right on Muslims, he is right on trade, and he is pro-American on the world stage. That, and an ability to achieve, are what we need now.
But you are so much smarter than the rest of us, and can see through Trump, so I don't know why I am arguing with you. I should simply be bowing down to you, saintly one.
Apparently you are not.
