No one looked particularly good. But Cruz is the only one who lost.
It might not be the exact moment that sinks Cruz's candidacy. Donald Trump appears to deserve the credit he's taking for that. But it was definitely the moment when the bitter animosity people feel toward Cruz â his fellow candidates, his fellow senators, and even, apparently, Fox News â broke out in the open.
At the heart of the attacks on Cruz is that behind his claims of conservative purity, he is, in fact, no better than the establishment candidates on the stage. He may not flip-flop as often as they do, but he's just as interested in doing what it takes to get ahead.
That attack, especially when applied to such a touchy issue as immigration, robs him of his key appeal to the conservative base. And it leaves his chief nemesis â Donald Trump â not only with an uncontested claim to immigration hard-liner cred, but as the only Republican candidate who actually speaks from the heart.

And all it will do is help Trump by hurting Cruz. Addition by Subtraction. It wouldn't surprise me if Trump went through this exact calculus. The man can handle the media in his sleep.
LIAR!
Ted Cruz doesn’t lose debates!
Everyone knows that!
Or lack of sleep. He did a wonderful rally in NH without any sleep this morning
It was a poison pill. Don’t believe me? Ask Sessions, Lee, or Schumer. Chuck Schumer, the bill’s chief sponsor, said that it would have passed had it not been for Ted Cruz.
Ted handled that perfectly fine.
We shall see monday shant we.
That’s why, in love, I suggested to my Cruzer friends that Cruz couldn’t possibly win last night. It was a mistake, and he should have said, “Don has said a lot of mean things, but when he’s right, he’s right, and it’s more important to go to an event for vets than to sit through two hours of biased horse-hockey!”
While Teddy was slamming Trump, he got backhanded by Michael Moores girlfriend. All losers up there last night.
LOL!!
I thought he lost it with the name calling “joke”/slam on Trump when at the exact same time Trump announced 6 million in donations at the veterans town hall.
Yes, it WAS nice of Megyn to "apologize" for kneecapping Teddie on live TeeVee.
The next day, when it doesn't count... LOL! :)
Partially, I guess. All along I’ve suspected Cruz would win in Iowa with Trump a close second. It wouldn’t surprise me if that were still the case.
Truth is, Cruz would do great on the SCOTUS. He’s a walking, talking law compendium. But the country doesn’t need a professor, it needs a principal.
Ted doesn’t lose debates.
This was a back alley mugging.
So hope that people understand Senate inside baseball?
Yeah, that’s not something I’ll hang hope onto.
I don’t know that it’s true Trump couldn’t lose since he wasn’t there. That remains to be seen.
I’m glad Dara Lind voxplained that to all of us.
trump is always one or two moves ahead of everything. Cruz could have got a lot of respect if he would have walked off in support of Trump and more importantly the VETS.
Except she didn’t “kneecap” him — she tried (after all, have to get him out of Donald’s way), but he made a strong and accurate response.
Must be some moment in some alternate reality. Cruz owned that debate and the GOP hates him more for it. They need a player at the top, not Cruz, the spoiler.
Why give anytime at all to a Soros-funded cesspool?
What does a conservative site give credence to George Soros?
