Early Nielsen ratings show that Thursday night's Fox News debate was the second-lowest rated debate of the primary season, according to a CNN report.
Without Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump participating, the debate got an 8.4 Nielsen rating, according to the report.
Thursday's rating would be much smaller than the 15.9 Nielsen rating for the first GOP debate hosted by Fox News in August.
Trump appeared at that debate, and clashed memorably with moderator Megyn Kelly when she asked him about his comments regarding women. A record 25 million people tuned in for the debate.

People love a Clown Show; hence, the appeal of Trump.
"Trump is likely to declare victory for the lower Fox ratings on Thursday night, though the debate still won more viewers than CNN and MSNBC combined as they showed Trump's rally."
Last night's debate was the most like a debate, since there wasn't anyone there acting like a 10-year-old.
Few watched CNN as it kept interrupting with its talking heads. Most of us went to CSPAN.
Have the numbers for CSPAN been calculated?
Enough of the Debates, it probably helped Trump. I think it hurt Cruz as everyone was attacking him.
Actually, it’s the moderators who set the tone and content of a debate, NOT the participants. If the moderators ask serious questions, they get serious answers. If they pose ridiculous resolutions and hypotheticals, they get responses in kind.
With Trump gone FOX attacked Cruz. FOX does not want either Cruz or Trump.
Now that the media has made both Trump and Cruz unappealing to the voters, we can expect Rubio to be the nominee at the end of the day, just as the GOPe planned it. Funny how that worked out.
Well, I didn’t watch it, but I wasn’t going to watch it with Trump either.
After that initial FoxNews debate with the moderators spending 15 minutes before the debate complementing themselves, giving themselves high-fives, and wallowing in their grandness, I’ve found the whole modern showbiz-debate format harder and harder to take. Plus, I just don’t think I can sit through any debate with John Kasich present. He makes me want to punch my tv-screen.
Yeah, I watched the whole thing on C-Span.
The last debate before people vote is usually the highest rated.
Still winning...
Megyn put the Clown's Nose on Teddie Cruz, did she? :)
Trump is an extremely successful man. In short, he gets things done. I, for one, like that. Have you ever read his book, “The Art of the Deal”? His campaign very much mimics those ideas and tactics.
He goes to extremes to grab attention, intimidate, and weaken the resolve of his opponent. He’s unusually aggressive (in both fair and unfair ways) to test and probe the mettle and strength of his opponent. Once he knows what and who he’s dealing with, he makes his move. That’s Donald Trump. In case you haven’t noticed. He’s done quite well in his life in very difficult political arenas and nothing is more ruthless or personal than politics.
So, you are mistaken. Trump is no Clown.
Trump knows how to work the media to his advantage, make his point, and get things done. He’s running an unusual, but brilliant campaign. I have no idea if he’ll make a good President. Why would I? But, I do know that the rest of the candidates from both parties with their market tested stump speeches, phony hand gestures, and the mega-corporate support (that they whore for) will be just more of the same....and that’s not acceptable anymore
Our deficit is at 20 trillion. Our Social Programs desperately need to be reformed before they break us. We need an updated and enforceable immigration plan. Our current President is arrogant and lawless. Our Congress is bought and sold. I’ve had enough.
I’m gonna give Trump a chance, but that’s just me.
real news: ratings were virtually unscathed.
I, and others, watch the Trump rallies live on Trump’s web link. so those numbers will not reflect on the CSPAN numbers for last night’s rally nor the YouTube numbers.
The Trump Rally last night, which highlighted our veterans, was preferable to the other event on FNC. Listening to an American hero like Green Beret John Wayne Walding was an honor. Walding, an American hero, shows all the political clowns in DC what a true American hero looks and acts like.
