People can try as they might to attribute those positions to “years ago,†or “making nice for business’ sake,†but the fact he’s vocally carried those stances is what should give voters pause.”
You are really streching, with very little substance. He made the comment 15 years ago, which certainly is “years ago”. It is relevant that he only supported what was already law. The Republican candidate at the time, George Bush, went further, saying that he would sign a renewal of the “Assualt Weapon Ban” if it came to his desk. Trump did not support more infringements on the Second Amendment.
In the present, and for several years previous, he has been a staunch Second Amendment supporter, and there are good reasons for his education on this issue.
Those have no less substance than the past statements o other conservatives have hung on them.
But even putting the gun control issue aside, Trump’s stances on those other issues should be troublesome enough. The gun control issue is just one of many.
