“What’s you response to his statement and his actions? Do you think he didn’t really mean it when he said he’d rather die than go to prison?”

Maybe you didn’t see the video...he clearly was trying to surrender. He got out of the vehicle to distance himself from his friends...to protect them... and was clearly trying to surrender.

I see someone who tried to flee from law enforcement, and then upon exiting the vehicle after it got stuck reached for his waistband (plenty of pictures of him wearing a handgun can be found online) and got shot. If he simply done what the others did he’d be alive like them, but he said he’d rather die than go to jail...
I agree with you he got out of the truck to distance himself from the others, because he intended to out guns blazing as a man of his word. If he wanted to surrender he wouldn’t have fled.
