Think about it. If Trump wins Iowa after skipping the debate, there will remain a lingering doubt of whether he could have pulled off the win had he been forced to answer tough questions.

Matt, I've thought about it. No it doesn't. It's a dumb thought. Put down the bottle. Take a nap, man.

If Trump wins Iowa after EVERY single paper, network, talking head, and blogger in the universe attacking him the way they have for a solid month non-stop, then I'd say his support is pretty solid.

Be prepared to vote for Trump as the GOP nominee.

if south carolina is their last chance .. they have no chance.

Florida is actually their last chance in my opinion.

Oh, come on! Just as many people will say just the opposite: He won without having to attend the debate. Indeed, I think this thought would be more common than the above.

Nah.
Ohio is the make-or-break contest.
Even then a very close competitor still has a chance.

“Trump’s decision to skip the Des Moines debate might or might not be a smart move. But it guarantees us that he won’t “seal the deal” until he can prove himself in South Carolina. But if he does, the nomination will be his.”

A singularly stupid assessment! The deal IS SEALED already! Trump is playing Chess while the rest are playing Checkers. Trump has been three moves ahead of the field from the getgo!

Rubio takes a surprise 2nd in Iowa (thanks to GOPe GOTV efforts) to get the momentum for him going.
NH will be his “coming out” (heh) party, where he will come within 6 of Trump solidifying him as the #2 man in the race.

Cruz will skip NH after a narrowly coming in 3rd to Rubio, and will focus on SC where he will hope to battle him and regain the 2nd spot before Super Tuesday. Trump still wins SC, but Cruz/Rubio will be the big fight for 2nd going into Florida.

Florida will be the climax of that fight.

Then the Establishment is toast because Rubio is likely to do better but Jeb is too deluded to drop out.

What, again?? Didn't they claim in August, then September, then October, then November, then December, and now January they will "stop Trump", whatever the hell that means??

Trump hasn't been part of the eGOP "scene" in DC and those that have spent their entire lives climbing the social ladder in the eGOP are scared they won't retain their positions if Trump wins. Period. THAT is why they oppose Trump.

Do you really think the Cruz Carson Huckabee Christians will vote for a man who has nude pictures of his wife out there, whose been married 3 times, multiple affairs he bragged about, strip clubs he opened and God knows what else. Why vote for Bill Clinton trump when he’s what we already had. These voters will go third party or stay home. I won’t vote for a man like this.

Ummm... Not sure about that “logic” used by the author since there are debates before both the New Hampshire and South Carolina primaries.

If Trump wins Iowa and New Hampshire, his lead will more than hold up in South Carolina. He should win the Nevada caucus, do very well on Super Tuesday (with maybe Cruz winning his home state of Texas) and roll through through the rest of the primary schedule.

The GOP-e’s only real chance is to coalesce around a RINO candidate like Rubio. But that would mean Bush and the rest of the pack would have to pack up and go home.
