Dr. Craig Considine is a Catholic American of Irish and Italian descent. In the Fall of 2015, Craig will take up a Lecturer position in the Department of Sociology at Rice University in Houston, Texas. As a sociologist, he focuses on Christian-Muslim relations, interfaith studies, identity, race and ethnicity, as well as comparative research and ethnography. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Trinity College Dublin, an MS.c. Lond. In International Relations from Royal Holloway, University of London, and a B.A. in International Relations from American University, Washington DC.
Since his undergraduate years, Craig has served in many different academic capacities. He was recently a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Department of Sociology at Trinity College Dublin where he was a finalist for the Provost Teaching Award in 2011. In addition to his teaching duties, Considine was Editor of the Trinity College Dublin Journal of Postgraduate Research: Ireland’s Research on the Global Stage, Vol. 11 in 2012 and held the role of Postgraduate Representative on behalf of doctoral and masters students in the Department of Sociology at Trinity College Dublin. Considine has been invited to lecture, speak, or participate in panel presentations at Princeton University, U.S. Embassy London, Trinity College Dublin, School of Oriental and African Studies, University College Dublin, University College Cork, and the University of Geneva. Prior to arriving at Trinity College, Considine served as the Film Director for Professor Akbar Ahmed’s documentary feature film Journey into America (2009), which was favorably reviewed by the U.S. State Department. Aside from his academic publishing in peer-review journals and books, Considine is a regular writer for Huffington Post Religion. His opinion editorials have been published by and appeared on the websites of Washington Post, Newsweek, Fox News, Patheos, Express Tribune (Pakistan), Arab News, Saudi Gazette, Today’s Zaman (Turkey), Voice of America, Irish Independent, Kashmir Observer, The American Muslim, Bikya Masr (Egypt), Common Ground News, Islamophobia Today, The Muslim Observer, Loon Watch, Morocco World News, Muslim Village, and Pakistan Link. Furthermore, media outlets including CNN, Al-Jazeera English, and The Boston Globe have interviewed him, and his work has appeared on the websites of the Council of American Islamic Relations as well as the Iranian Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
