From what I understand of the law, your first statement is correct. However, it Cruz would have been an automatically naturalized U.S. Citizen, not a “natural born citizen,” which is what is required to run for the Presidency. The legal definition of “natural born citizen” seems to be the problem - since that doesn’t seem to be settled.
And that’s all that Trump was saying. This needs to be settled, and Cruz needs to be immune to legal attacks from the Democrats if he’s to be the nominee (or running mate).
It also doesn’t help that a plethora of people attended American government and social studies classes where they were told over and over that to be president you had to be born in the USA, and to two citizen parents to be NBC.
Now they are being told otherwise because this guy is so great.
