The federal government outlined its case Wednesday against Ammon Bundy and other militants charged with occupying an Oregon wildlife refuge.
The criminal complaint was filed in federal court in Portland.
It lists video and written evidence that shows Ammon Bundy, Ryan Bundy, Ryan Payne, Pete Santilli, Shawna Cox, Jon Ritzheimer and Joseph O'Shaughnessy all took part in an armed occupation at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.
Federal prosecutors have charged all of the defendants with felonies related to preventing federal workers from doing their jobs.
All of the defendants except Ritzheimer, who turned himself in to Arizona law enforcement Tuesday, appeared before Judge Stacie Beckerman in Portland Wednesday afternoon.

Federal prosecutors Wednesday argued during the hearing that the defendants should all be detained during the court proceedings because they are part of "an ongoing conspiracy" and could potentially return to the wildlife refuge near Burns, Oregon if released.
Defense attorneys countered that the defendants mostly did not have criminal histories and should be released on bail. They'll have a detention hearing on Friday.
All of the militants except for leader Ammon Bundy opted to accept court appointed defense attorneys on the grounds that they could not afford their own counsel.
Ammon Bundy was represented at the hearing by Lissa Casey, an attorney with Arnold Law in Eugene, Oregon.

SCOTUS of-interest ping.
The first of many federal charges. Hopefully, a few decades in a federal prison will knock the piss and vinegar out of the Bundy brothers and their merry band of domestic terrorists.
You really don’t get the whole Federal Land Grab thing, do you?
Where can we get more of that - Preventing a federal worker from doing his/her job...wow, what a crime against Society.
This will go to trial. Guilty verdicts. Sentence: Time served at Melheur Refuge. Hammonds sentence commuted as soon as a real American enters the WH.

Thanks for the ping
Will they get a Pardon when Obama empties the Prisons ?
I think you're right. The prosecutors needed a sworn Complaint to make an arrest and hold the defendants, but I think the one count in this Complaint is just a placeholder-- the prosecution will probably be back with a much longer set of charges once they put the case before a grand jury.

Isn’t Pete Santilli the guy broadcasting live on youtube last night? The stream kept stopping so I quit watching.
Thing it was a looping broadcast from the day before.
There is definitely a huge portion of the federal land bureaucracy that feels perfect land management means not letting anybody use public land. Look no further than the closing of OHV trails, mining claims, and this grazing issue. Having somebody that doesn't pay grazing fees for 20 years, and loses his cattle in court, decide to pull guns on people with a court order doesn't help that fight.
This guy that got killed last night should have spent the latter years of his life riding his horse and playing with his grandkids. Instead he followed the Bundy brothers to some kind of standoff where the Feds mean it when they say "drop your weapon."
Exactly which agency shot the deceased hasn't been identified. I did notice that the investigating agency is the Deschutes County Sheriff's Department which makes me wonder if it was a federal agent or a state/local.
No winners in this one. Just varied degrees of losers.
I think the domestic terrorists ambushed and murdered one of the Bundy group...
The federal process needs a charge filed within 48 hours to continue holding somebody in custody.
I was born into a ranching family. When I was younger, I’d work the summers with my grandfather, on whatever ranch he was hired to work. My knowledge of land, range, and water issues are better then some. More importantly, I understand the law regarding those issues. The Bundy brothers were promoting a warped and simply wrong viewpoint of these issues. I could explain it to you. However, i can’t make you understand the law. Hire an attorney to explain it to you.
Whatever. Hillary's lawn jockeys in the Federal "justice" system will have their little show trial, like the Russians did under Stalin:
