There is no accounting for the shooting in an ultimate sense, because there’s no reason to bother these people. They were not harmful, had not harmed, and were committing the awful act of sleeping in a firefighter’s shack.
Why would the law confront them that night and shoot?
My guess is that they were looking for the tiniest provocation that they could hang their hats on, and that when finally pressed they’ll say they “thought X was doing this or that”.
That’s all they need.
They’ll walk, but we’ll continue knowing it was unnecessary.

I take your point pastor, but what DonaldC and I were trying to figure out was how there was so much gunfire and relatively few casualties. An initial thought was that the FBI has become tactically inept, which is puzzling. Now we’re wondering if their purpose was to put most of these people in an up close, traumatizing crossfire with the purpose of instilling terror, and then letting them carry the message home. Something like the Byzantine atrocity towards the Bulgars.* If that is the intent, then this homicide is very deliberate, very calculated, and a tool of State policy. State terror, carefully targeted, figuratively and literally.

This man was there at the take down of the Bundys. He was with Ammon. He di not witness the actual shooting, but he saw what happened from a distance and talked to those who did. I believe he is the closest to the mark.
