Can you help me understand why this is a sufficient argument against Cruz? Is it because he was with Beck and Beck is unhinged? Is it because the people to whom they were showing kindness had broken the law? Is it not possible to insist on strict enforcement of the law, and simultaneously recognize that those who have broken it might themselves have been victimized or experienced basic human suffering in the act?

My personal opinion is that all immigration, legal or illegal, must be stopped at least until the US economy can put people back to work, the southern border, actually all borders, must be permanently secured, and all those here illegally should be deported. It does not follow logically that they or their children should be denied individual human kindness or that those who offer it are somehow untrustworthy.

Cruz’s position is not completely consistent with mine, but Trump plans to put a “big, beautiful door” in the wall, and bring “the good ones” immediately back in. Not only is he endorsing touchback amnesty, but such a world-class manager should recognize that it would be far more efficient to identify “the good ones” while they are here and spare the expense of deporting them and then just bringing them right back.

Maybe Cruz knew his bill wouldn’t pass. But most of us have urged the House Republicans to pass legislation which we knew would not get through the Senate, and we’ve urged Republicans in both houses to pass legislation which we knew would be vetoed by Obama. In fact, only writing legislation which they know will pass has been one of the key failures of the Republican establishment.

So neither offering toys to illegal alien children nor writing a bill which could not pass are serious arguments against Cruz’s position on illegal immigration.

My suspicion is that he was grandstanding both sides of the issue...so he could have it both ways depending on how the wind blew. This isn’t the only time I’ve noticed this. If it weren’t for the publicity one might give him credit for kindness to those less fortunate,

I could be wrong but he keeps coming up with weird excused for why “he was for it before he was against it”.

Probably the power bug got hold of him and he’s lost his cool over his need to advance himself. It does seem that his inclinitations are conservative but he’s gone off the reversation a couple of times - to me suggesting he can be bought.
