As my father would say “If you don’t like the food, you can go hungry. If you don’t like the accommodations you are free to get a job and pay for your own”
Or as I used to say to my kids, ‘You’ll get what you get, and you don’t throw a fit.”
At one point our daughter had nothing in her room except a mattress and one change of clothes. We also removed the door. We did feed her what we ate although we told her that we were only obligated to give her two bowls of oatmeal a day.
My Dad would’ve said the same thing. And any complaints about it being too dirty would have been met with a terse “Then, clean it.”
