Come on, where is your proof of that? Did you dream it up? Without proof its libel.

I posted the link to the organization. It still exists, it’s still using eminent domain to improve the cities in its catchment area. They’ve done hundreds of projects with many many developers. They have an independent board. Did only Trump collude? This sounds like tinfoil hat time.

The board thought the project was worthwhile. Most likely Trump told them she didn’t want to sell at $2 million. They decided they were out of patience because they wanted the casino built and asked the town to foreclose. They have done that in many other situations. That’s why I linked the article talking about all the other foreclosures.

Government can’t foreclose on private real estate when there are no back taxes owed.

So it still exists and is still using eminent domain to steal private property through government power for the use of other private entities. The Founding Fathers would be appalled. That evil continues to exist doesn't make it less evil. That others make use of it doesn't make it less evil. It should not exist. Kelo is an abomination. And the definition of collusion I posted fits.

Casino gambling in Iowa started in my community a couple decades ago. 'Riverboat' gambling it was going to be, and only that. There was a big public debate over whether to make it legal, which I remember well. The opponent warned of many undesirable consequences, all of which the casino operators and developers denied. All have since come true. The casino operators and developers promised to build a wide variety of unrelated development. None of it has occurred. Only casinos and adjacent hotel convention complexes, to feed the casinos, have been built. The only promise they've kept, beyond feathering their own nest, is to give local governments a piece of their action. Ensuring those governments would collude with their interests as needed. Over time, as originally warned, the casinos gained enough power to change the rules and end the cruises on the river by they boats. If the marks couldn't come and go ad lib they couldn't get as much business. Over more time they gained enough power to shift their casinos off the riverfront to more profitable locations. Once we had three gambling boat casinos. Rock Island's (Ilinois jumped on Iowa's bandwagon) has already gone inland. Davenport's inland replacement in under construction. Bettendorf's already land based, with a big casino owned hotel, although along the river. But there is nothing else around it. The only benefits that lasted have been to the casino operators, the developers and the colluding local politicians.

Of course the casino operators and developers think their developments are worthwhile. THEY make money off them. The local politicians love them. THEY are given other people's money to spend without having to tax to collect it. Why should any of them care they're stealing someone's home through eminent domain? They don't care when they take your money, potentially your life savings, when weak willed people gamble and the math says the house can't lose. But it's a parasite and a zero sum game for the community. Especially now that it is so widespread that people don't have to travel far to gamble in casinos. Stealing private property for casino development is, economically, one of the worst conceivable uses for eminent domain. Most other private enterprises add something to the economy instead of just shifting dollars into different pockets. And trying to convert someone's home, against their will, into a parking lot for rich gambler's limos is flagrant enough to make even Trump supporters cringe. Hence all the trolls pleading "Trump didn't bulldoze, Cruz lied" Cruz didn't say Trump bulldozed, he said he colluded to try to bulldoze. That's true and that truth is cringeworthy. That Trump failed is no defense. That Trump supporters can't understand this, or understand yet don't care, on THIS board, is alarming.
