Why would they send a gay to be ambassador in Benghazi? Doesn’t sound like a very good decision. The information never really leaked out because there was much more to the story. Still cannot understand why they didn’t support Stevens? Was he the man who knew too much?
I seriously think that in their Leftist minds, bigots are only Archie Bunker type white guys. That a “Noble” minority like a Muslim would hate and kill homosexuals because they are homosexuals just doesn’t jive with their deeply held and false belief about the world.
So they think those quant little Muslims will tolerate him because well, gays are just so fab!!!
Then all the stand down orders during the ordeal. Sure looks like a hit to me. Don't know what else to call it. Stevens knew a lot and had a rep of loose lips, may have contributed to his demise.
Stevens was ambassador to Libya. He was a career foreign service officer who spent most of his career in the Arab world and spoke Arabic. He was a key interlocutor during the Libyan civil war.
I am fairly confident in saying that the State Department recommended to the WH that Stevens be named the Ambassador to Libya.
From 1983 to 1985, he taught English as a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco.
Stevens joined the United States Foreign Service in 1991. His early overseas assignments included: deputy principal officer and political section chief in Jerusalem; political officer in Damascus; consular/political officer in Cairo and consular/economic officer in Riyadh. In Washington, Stevens served as Director of the Office of Multilateral Nuclear and Security Affairs; Pearson Fellow with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Senator Richard Lugar; special assistant to the Under Secretary for Political Affairs; Iran desk officer and staff assistant in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs.
He had served in Libya twice previously: as the Deputy Chief of Mission (from 2007 to 2009) and as Special Representative to the National Transitional Council (from March 2011 to November 2011) during the Libyan revolution. He arrived in Tripoli in May 2012 as the U.S. Ambassador to Libya. Stevens spoke English, French and some Arabic.
I doubt his sexual preferences had anything to do with his selection to be Ambassador. He was simply the best qualified for the job. I also doubt that Obama or Hillary knew him well either. Hillary got his name wrong the night of the attack on Benghazi.
