Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is adding new fuel to the battle over abortion rights.
The presidential candidate has introduced legislation that would give unborn children equal protection under the law as part of the 14th Amendment, giving them the same rights as "born" individuals.
Paul said the legislation "declares what most Americans believe and what science has long known â that human life begins at the moment of conception."
"Only when America chooses, remembers, and restores her respect for life will we rediscover our moral bearings and truly find our way," he said.
Paul's legislation is expected to be placed on the Senate calendar next week, allowing it to skip over the committee process. The move could allow it to come up for a vote, though no floor time has been scheduled.

I see it differently. It allows for an (overwhelmingly logical) secular argument for life. If unborn children are defined as persons legislatively, they pick up all the rights and duties of any other citizen. Most notably the right to DUE PROCESS. And also the right to representation.
Agreed. The LP is largely juvenile nonsense; though, I haven’t read any recent updates to it.
This is not the first rodeo for this idea, and what I mention is the thing that proved fatal for it. It protected them so much that we were agonizing over zygotes.
There, at the least, must be an acts of God exception. And it has to mean something too. No wrongful death lawsuits on the behalf of unimplanted zygotes, thank you very much!
Agreed. We are toast if we do not seek Him first.
Well, we already have mix-o-problems with the same regard
- Abortion isn’t murder
- But killing a baby in-utero (drunk crash, robbery) get a 2-fer
- Mothers have ‘every right’ to murder their child
- Fathers have NO say yes/no and WILL be on the hook for 18-yrs if come to term.
- Mothers can be prosecuted for fetal-alcohol/drug
Only the Left can pretzel logic enough to have and eat their cake.
Course, logic isn’t their forte. Though, it’s not hard to see that the new genetic make-up in the tummy is the EXACT same post-vagina = the child born is the same HUMAN pre-birth.
When one does not have a defensible response to the argument, one turns and attacks the messenger.
This doesn’t take away the fact that it was proposed before and fell down. An acts of God exception would very NEATLY gut such problems. People can keep on going la la la la with their fingers in their ears, or they can consider. I’m but a voice in the wilderness. Maybe someone will pass it on to Paul, though.
I was being facetious
Or when one knows it’s been tried, hit a brick wall, and failed, one might be tempted to scoff at the idea too. I say not so quick, all around.
Oh, I have NO doubt this will never see the light of day. Nothing that would put down, for all to see, a politicians vote, in an election year...
Still, this gives Paul a gold star over the rest of the competition; he’s shown what ACTIONS he’s willing to push. Let’s see whom else hitches their wagon.
Same as if someone has a heart attack and dies.
*SIGH*
It shouldn’t be a freaking competition or a “let’s call out people for not thinking to do something.”
They’re all individuals who are going to hit on some things and miss on others. If someone introduces a great bill or tries to put in a great amendment, why not just give them credit instead of saying, “Why didn’t Cruz do this?” to slam him or slight him in some way.
I say that not merely because Cruz is the guy I’d vote for in the primary and, if it happens (but probably not) in the general at this point.
It seems petty and snide. Cruz has pretty much lead the way in Congress on most social conservative issues, including trying to press the case to defund Planned Parenthood. If he misses one he misses one. I don’t mind letting someone else have the glory when they step up to the plate.
He may be a kook, but he’s put the bill out there. Every politician in DC should vote yes for this. The first baby murdered after this is shot down will have the blood of that baby on their hands.
If elected president, would he issue an executive order recognizing the personhood of all unborn children and use all his executive powers to protect those children from having the lives taken without due process?
If so, he has my vote.
Shouldn’t have to be done, but Kudos Rand!
Amen! The nation could in fact get rich again, but God will avenge the innocent dead of the American pre-born genocide (and the world’s) because He has done it before and He has not changed, He just gave the responsibility to His Son.
That’s one approach.
Roe v. Wade itself says that if Congress finds that the fetus is a “person” within the meaning of the 14th Amendment, “appellant’s case collapses.”
Another approach would be to repeal the 14th Amendment, this would undo 150 years of horrible USSC decisions based on twisting the 14th Amendment.
Since the amendment was written to protect freed slaves, and all free slaves are now decease, the amendment should be repealed.
Roe v. Wade itself says that if Congress finds that the fetus is a “person” within the meaning of the 14th Amendment, “appellant’s case collapses.”
In other words, Paul is taking Roe v. Wade seriously, and proposing precisely what Roe calls for Congress to do.
Failure to implant, etc., are merely examples of natural death, and are not homicide.
When my 85-year-old grandmother dies of a heart attack, nobody gets charged with homicide.
I think the issue you are trying to create is totally imaginary.
Just donated fifty bucks to Paul for this. Good works deserve support.
