Simple. True conservatives stop rallying around Trump, and let Cruz do his thing. He’ll win because conservatism is actually compelling when you stick to it. Like this exchange:

Beat Trump for the nomination and convince him to honor his promise not to run third party. At that point the avid Trump supporters have three choices: give their votes to Cruz, give their votes to Hillary or whomever replaces her, or act like the petulant cultists they're accused of but deny being and sit out. If they care about what they swear they care about they'll vote Cruz past 270. Beating Trump is the hard part, winning the general is the easy part.
However, if Trump fans still insist that only Trump can save the country, then they are still insisting the country is doomed, just delayed a term or too. If the country can only run properly with Trump at the helm and if he is such rare and unique person than what do we do after his one, or perhaps two (he is 67) terms? Do we fall back into the present morass? Do we become an American empire with a Trump Dynasty until some spawn of Ivanka turns Nero? Or do we get turned back into the only system that's ever really worked for us, the Constitution? For which only Cruz is faithfully pushing.
