I expect you are correct for a sizeable number of Trump-first supporters. I do think however that ALSO abject fear overpowers and tricks people into voting for what they don't want, liberalism. I can think of two people whom you and I both have admired for years on FR, who certainly don't want liberalism, but they DO sucuumb to fear and let it trick them into making bad choices, such as knowingly voting for amoral leftist Romney, a functional Democrat registered as a Republican because they FEARED the functional Democrat registered as a Democrat, more.
