Concur.
No, Reagan was never a populist. Reagan ran on pure Conservative principles.
I am not a newby to conservatism. Populism such as Perot’s, Buchanan’s, Sander’s, and Trump’s is tied to personality rather than philosophical principles.
If you don’t know the difference, then that explains it.
There’s about half a dozen paid Cruz Trolls who’ve purchased or hacked old, inactive FR accounts that are making about 95% of the anti-Trump posts, which are numbering in the hundreds per day. There’s going to be no reasoning with them: they are being paid to do this.
I support Cruz. I will be willing to vote for Trump. My reasoning is thus:
First, in my reckoning, Cruz is the more conservative in my view, especially in regards to social conservatism and the ideals of limited government. While not a perfect candidate (no executive experience to speak of) I find him acceptable. As to Trump, I would be willing to vote for him because it would be a great stroke against the Myth Romney/Bush/McStain types who have largely cooperated with the leftist agenda. If it causes them outrage, or otherwise discomfits them, then it is good. In my view, Trump is a liberal- but he won’t be THEIR liberal. (They have nothing to bribe him with...) As for the rest of the field, they are all GOPe and voting for them will get the same result as voting for Hilary, but with an R next to the name.
I appreciate the effort but in IMO only time will resolve this issue.
The title reminds me of a self-help book or article title in a magazine a the grocery check-out.
“Polls say 30% of Republicans feels as I do. However, many will end up voting for him probably.”
Yes, the smart one’s.
There is no evidence that Trump is a liberal. Only that he had previously held liberal beliefs. The same can be said for Reagan. People change.
I was a Reagan Democrat, born Democrat and converted by Reagan’s demeanor, persuasiveness and conservative action. Trump is no Reagan, but he is no Mondale.
I’d suggest people read his political book, not “Art of the Deal”... but his political book,
” Crippled America: How to Make America Great Again “
I know several conservatives who read this and the previous book and came away convinced that he was a conservative.
