Stange as it may sound I was a 10 year old kid watching Firing Line. BELIEVE ME....... Trump has ABSOLUTELY no resemblance to the eloquence and reasonable calmness of W. F. Buckley.

Buckley and Reagan for that matter are spinning in their graves right now, seeing Trump hijack the movement, and turning such a big chunk of our side into blithering lemmings.jumping through a carnival barker's hoop off the cliff.

Just last night Trump was even quoted that he could shoot someone and go up in the polls. Very sad to see that extreme level of arrogance and narcism. History will document 2016 as the Duping of Conservatives.

Probably won’t grab this issue. Was Bolton one of the writers? I like him and think Trump might put him in his cabinet.

Re: “What exactly have the 'consistent conservatives' in congress accomplished?”

I doubt that more than 20% of elected Republicans are “consistent Conservatives.”

In my opinion, more than 50% of elected Republicans are consistently center-left, and they consistently support center-left compromises with the Democrat Party.

Re: “Trump is more than enough conservative for most rational people.”

Between 2000-2012, Trump quit, joined, or re-joined three different political parties, six times.

I don't believe a word the man says.

Sorry - I don't believe a word the man says.

Your post is on the level of gossip, FRiend. If you were to research the situations you post so authoritatively about, you would see that there is another side to the story and a different take on it. Start with looking up the various types of bankruptcy. The kind he used was a business reorganization so that people would get paid. The following facsimile of his voting record in New York was posted on FR yesterday: registered "R" for many years. Don't know if it's authentic, but here it is:

I've always been an admirer of Silence Dogood...:-)

"She" is one of my most admired American figures of all time. Visited the grave several times. Went to one of his bronze statues at University of Pennsylvania (the one on a park bench) and sat on his lap. (I'm a woman, so...)

Here's the other, older, "official" one at UPenn, which he founded:

You have started with the premise that the past must dictate the future. That is the reason why conservatism has been losing. It's not theater, in which everyone must memorize their parts in advance. It's a knowledge and willingness to honor and accommodate our traditions, and the wisdom to grow with them, extending their reach. It's not, first and foremost, a prescription for etiquette. Even Martin Luther used poop language in his writings that changed the world. Passionate people break new ground, and it's not always pretty. Skeletons get dug up.

Traditional Americans have been backed into a corner by our polite requests for permission to speak or act, while the left has screeched "hater!" "bigot!" "phobic!" like mindless voice-activated jack-in-the-boxes, no matter how deep the research, authority, accuracy, innovation, predictive skill or creativity of our proposals. We need a leader unafraid to break the chains of the right wing's predictable submission and use them to beat the opposition into something resembling respect for our rights and our nation's survival, not just their lusts, greed, laziness, lying, stupidity and self-righteous do-goodism that ends inevitably in failure and corruption. Cruz's earnest lecturing, Carson's surgical delicacy and Jeb's spineless protests are not going to cut it.

“Have you figured out what is the real reason people like Medved have morbid hatred of Trump? He started anti-Trump campaign on radio almost on day 1 when trump announced he was running.”

Part of it’s because Trump’s opening salvo was against illegal aliens. Medved has been a rabid supporter of illegal immigrants for years. I particularly enjoy the way he lovingly pronounces “latino” with a Spanish accent, as if English pronunciation isn’t good enough for him. Medved gives the occasional nod to doing things legally but his real passion comes out when he is yelling at some caller about how deportation is impossible. He is as hard left on the subject as Obama.

Another reason for Medved’s Trump hatred is likely because Trump was against Dubya’s Iraq war. Medved is a re-born Leftist who was a big mouth against America during Vietnam but who now wants us to wage war in the Arab world to give them democracy. It’s the neocon Democracy Project lunacy that ignores the role of Islam, and I suspect that Medved played no small role in selling Dubya on it.

And I’m sure the fact that Trump is a threat to the GOP Establishment’s control of the party plays a big role as well, since Medved also despises Cruz.

I like your argument, but to stray from the philosophy of Buckley and Reagan is fool hearty based on a pseudo-conservative's populist message. Remember that 1980 Conservative resurgence was based on the ashes of FDR's New Deal, LBJ's Great Society, and the absolute disaster of the Carter Administration. Once we hit rock bottom again, true principled conservatism will reign again.

You can call me a hard headed Conservative Ideologue, but I wear that badge with pride and honor. And that means i will vote for the most conservative candidate of any party in the general election.

Thank you so much for taking time to respond to my post.

I have finally reached the conclusion that the politicians who have hurt the country the most on fiscal issues are the neocons. Trillions spent in (Vietnam+Kuwait+Iraq+Syria) and what do we have in return? More Trillions in national debt,
no viable democracies created from any of those wars.

Re: “Your post is on the level of gossip, FRiend.”

Sorry, that's not correct, Albion.

Trump's four bankruptcies are Chapter 11 of Title 11 under the United States Bankruptcy Code.

ALL the investors, and ALL the vendors, take a financial haircut in Chapter 11. Why else would they be in court? Sometimes the unsubordinated bondholders come out whole.

As to the criminal fraud investigations, since Trump was not prosecuted or convicted, I thought it was obvious that there was “another side to the story.” However, how many previous presidential candidates have you supported who were investigated for criminal fraud?

As to the civil lawsuits for fraud, two were settled out of court, and one was dismissed. How many previous presidential candidates have you supported who settled two fraud lawsuits out of court?

As to Trump's voting record, it is authentic.

Unfortunately, you failed to read my Comments on that thread.

I consulted the original article published by the Daily Mail, which was not the article posted at Free Republic.

The “R” does not stand for Republican. The “R” under “Ballot Type” stands for “Regular.” The “R” under “Voter Type” stands for “Registered.”

Exactly what Buckley recommended — but it may well be Trump. He is not in charge of NR’s narratives, and is under no obligation to restrain himself into failure as the GOPe seems to want to do, when our country is going down the tube financially and many, many other ways. He smells smoke. He has a firehose. Doors are going to get kicked in.

He was such a great character, wasn't he? It was wonderful how his television show used to have up to an hour of quiet conversation and debate, without any of the graphic exploding fireworks and dazzling graphic interruptions, chiron crawl on the bottom of the screen, pop-up ads, etc. You could just listen to what was being said and hope to take it in.

Here's a fun little short clip:

Firing Line with William F. Buckley Jr. "Presidential Hopeful: Ronald Reagan"

Well to be fair neocons didn’t exist when Vietnam was in play and the issue wasn’t nation building or spreading democracy. Our foreign policy at the time was a bipartisan liberal internationalism and the main goal was to defend the Free World from Communist expansion.

Our commitment to Vietnam began in the mid ‘50s under President Eisenhower when the French were defeated at Dien Bien Phu and the Vietnam was partitioned into a Communist North and a free South.

The goal was to keep South Vietnam free in order to halt the Communist advance in Southeast Asia. Eisenhower used the image of falling dominoes to make his case. Ultimately we bought time for the countries surrounding the war zone to strengthen themselves and only Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos fell, but to many Americans the war seemed both neverending and pointless. No need to rehash that right now.

I’d date neocon influence on our foreign policy with the Balkans War under Bill Clinton. But it really flowered under Dubya with Iraq being the main example. A think tank called the Project for a New American Century had been spoiling for us to invade Iraq in the late Clinton presidency and many of the people associated with PNAC went on to staff Dubya’s administration, bringing with them their fantasies of remaking the Arab world. Bush evidently bought into it.

Obama took that policy and used it to spread the power of the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist groups, maybe including ISIS in Libya and Syria. It’s hard to tell just who he has been boosting.

Rubio and Lindsey Graham have been singing that same neocon song in the primary but with a let’s fight Russia twist. Unlike Iraq, Russia can and will hit back hard if we were try a stunt like that.

Beats me. I’ve never heard the phrase before. I assume it’s a rhetorical question so you’ll have to tell us.
