Donald Trump is taking his rivalry with Republican presidential opponent Ted Cruz to a new level, unveiling an attack ad that portrays the U.S. senator from Texas as weak on illegal immigration.
The minute-long commercial, which Trump's campaign released Friday morning, zeroes in on an interview last month in which Cruz struggled to explain his involvement in immigration reform efforts in 2013. The spot then flashes back to Cruz introducing amendments to the so-called "Gang of Eight" legislation that has become toxic to many GOP primary voters.
"I want immigration reform to pass," Cruz is quoted as saying at the time, "and that allows those who are here illegally to come in out of the shadows."
Labeling Cruz "pro immigration" and "pro amnesty," the spot mocks Cruz's denial that his amendments would have allowed people in the country illegally to stay permanently and obtain legal status. "Yeah, right Ted," reads text on the screen after Cruz is shown insisting his amendments would not have done that.
Cruz's amendments would have nixed a path to citizenship for people in the country illegally but left in place a measure to grant them legal status. The commercial goes on to contrast Cruz's collective remarks on the Gang of Eight with an interview last week in which Trump spoke of the negative effects of illegal immigration and vowed to secure the border.

Dishonest ad.
So yesterday Cruz doesn’t cooperate or make deals like the Donald.
Today Cruz makes deals and Donald would not.
Got it.
Donald embodies blue privilege.
How much did his many years financing and supporting the Democrat party help them get away with their own border scheme? Immigration isn’t a new issue, except for Trump.
That’s the issue that will cinch it for Trump.
Everyone else has drunk the Chamber of Commerce Kool-Aid.
So an attack ad is when you use the actual words and video clips of the other candidate. There was a fair amount of stuttering by cruz so some of the clips were hard to follow.
BAM! There it is!
Clear as mud.
Trump is for amnesty.
Cruz In 2013 On Providing Legal Status To Illegal Immigrants
If this amendment is adopted to the current bill, the effect would be that those 11 million under this current bill would still be eligible for RPI status. They would still be eligible for legal status and indeed, under the terms of the bill, they would be eligible for LPR status as well so that they are out of the shadows, which the proponents of this bill repeatedly point to as their principal objective to provide a legal status for those who are here illegally to be out of the shadows.
I want immigration reform to pass. And so I would urge people of good faith on both sides of the aisle, if the objective is to pass common sense immigration reform that secures the borders, that improves legal immigration, and that allows those who are here illegally to come in out of the shadows.

How is showing an interview by Cruz an attack ad? Because the truth hurts or something else?
Yes, we've all been over the 2013 Cruz quote lots of time.
Some say it is as it appears. Others say that he was trying to sell his poison pill amendments. Sen. Sessions supports Cruz on that claim.
Now are you familiar with Trumps amnesty position without deportations (except for the criminals) thru almost the end of July 2015?
And are you familiar with Trump's latest positions since then where he wants to "expedite" the good ones back for a legalization amnesty.
I wouldn’t call it an ‘attack’ ad.
It is Cruz talking, his own words. No attack needed.
“And are you familiar with Trump’s latest positions since then where he wants to “expedite” the good ones back for a legalization amnesty.”
Trump did say he would allow the good ones to come back. And he gave a description of who he thought the “good ones” are. That is the part you conveniently left off because, then, it would make your narrative wrong.
The bottom line is that Cruz led the charge to kill the Gang of Eight Amnesty bill while masterfully exposing their true purpose of creating undocumented democrats by offering them everything else they claimed were the real reasons. He stated that the bill was awful and would have never voted for it in that very interview that Trump clipped.
Are you at all familiar with how fast the government expedites legal immigration?
I agree. That was no attack. An exposure, maybe- bot not an attack. It’s a mischaracterization.
Really? I've only heard Trump describe them as the "good ones".
So now I'm accused of "conveniently" leaving out information simply because you disagree with the facts that I presented. Never mind that I refrain from using the same comment about convenience over-and-over again, every time a Trump supporter gets something wrong.
So since you've heard an additional description, why don't you cite it.
