1977 was the absolute height of the "Cold War." In Europe we went to bed each night thinking that all hell could descend on us before sunrise. It made a strange psychology of live for today for tomorrow we may die.
Oddly enough in recent years with access to Russian archives we know now we came very close to thermonuclear war more times than we ever expected. Our psychology of live for today for tomorrow we may die, was irrational in logic but in reality most logical.
