If anything, an advertising man would be MORE likely to spell it out. using "2 Corinthians" is a standard shorthand, and roundly educated people in western civilization know how to say it. Pick up nearly any Bible, turn to the book in question, and more than likely the header on the page says "2 Corinthians". It is standard, and is how it is cited in judicial opinions and academic papers. It is no more complicated than saying "et cetera" when we read "etc.".
