I have been involved in the church, including teaching and leadership roles, for over 50 years. I have often been amazed at what a lot of regular churchgoers don’t know about their faith. One time a man came to me and said he had a Bible at home that did not begin with Genesis. I told him to bring it the next time he came to church. He did. He had a copy of the New Testament.

There is no indication that Trump is a regular churchgoer, or that he is particularly devout. But he also doesn’t have the thinly-veiled hostility toward religion exhibited by many in the ruling class. I’ll take that if I can’t get any better. The ongoing flap about Two Corinthians is beating a dead horse and a stupid diversion.

Trump, actually, has been a member of Marble Collegiate - a beautiful Manhattan church. I am part of the Tenenbrae ceremony which is performed there every Eastertide. I haven't seen Trump but then I'm stuck in the balcony with the other performers. Plus, it gets pretty dark in the church.
