Bob Dole, the former Kansas senator and 1996 Republican presidential nominee, has never been fond of Senator Ted Cruz of Texas. But in an interview Wednesday, Mr. Dole said that the party would suffer "cataclysmic" and "wholesale losses" if Mr. Cruz was the nominee, and that Donald J. Trump would fare better.
"I question his allegiance to the party,â Mr. Dole said of Mr. Cruz. "I don't know how often you've heard him say the word âRepublicanâ â not very often." Instead, Mr. Cruz uses the word "conservative," Mr. Dole said, before offering up a different word for Mr. Cruz: "extremist."
"I donât know how he's going to deal with Congress," he said. âNobody likes him."
But Mr. Dole said he thought Mr. Trump could "probably work with Congress, because he's, you know, he's got the right personality and heâs kind of a deal-maker."
The remarks by Mr. Dole reflect wider unease with Mr. Cruz among members of the Republican establishment, but few leading members of the party have been as candid and cutting.
"If heâs the nominee, we're going to have wholesale losses in Congress and state offices and governors and legislatures," said Mr. Dole, who served in the House and Senate for 35 years and won the Iowa caucuses twice. He described Mr. Cruz as having falsely "convinced the Iowa voters that heâs kind of a mainstream conservative."
The only person who could stop Mr. Cruz from capturing the nomination? "I think it's Trump," Mr. Dole said, adding that Mr. Trump was "gaining a little."

Bob, you lost to a guy who got impeached. And you would have gotten one less vote if Jack Kemp had not been your running mate.
Make that two less votes.
interesting, thanks!
We coulda used a man like Jack Kemp 20 or 30 years ago.
God said to Adam, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?" -Genesis 3:11
I think you've been listening to the enemy's disinformation, believing they have your best interest at heart. President Cruz is the ultimate threat to the Uniparty that owns both sides of the aisle.
What did she do? My memory must be slipping. I didn’t live there at the time.
what is the story ?
Though the eating of the apple was only a small thing in and of itself, physically harmless, that simple act, in defiance of the law God gave to them, opened the door to wretchedness and death, and Paradise was lost. And so, you would ask the patriots, the law-abiders, the believers in, the lovers of, the constitution, to break just one simple provision of the constitution, you say it is harmless, it is good, as Eve saw the apple was good to eat. If I ate of your fruit, I would not be like Eve or perhaps like you, an Eve, eating an unlawful fruit not knowing, not understanding what you are doing, supporting an unlawful candidate; unknowing, unthinking, uncaring, unaware, of the terrible harm it will do, thinking, oh it will not hurt us, we will not die as a nation, Ted Cruz will make us great again, strong, wise, powerful, good like Gods! But there are those of us, who like Adam who do who see the horrible problems to follow if we eat this forbidden fruit, we know it is wrong; we can see all of the evil that will follow us and we will be utterly utterly to blame for it, as you will not -- that is if you are an Eve and not a serpent! (I am inclined to think you an Eve, a serpent would not write with such naivety.) And that is what you, oh deceived one, are asking. That we be like Adam who unwisely plunged the whole human race into such sorrow so long ago, and knowing what he was doing. Maybe he even rationalized he was doing it for Eve's sake, for good, for love, but really it was selfish lust. Personally, I decline to an American Adam, I will not support the continued breaking the constitution into little pieces, until it means nothing at all. I will not support Cruz, I will not support Jindhal, I will not support Rubio, and I will never believe that Barak Obama is a lawful president! Find another analogy, that one is terrible. Try reading a the bible at least a little past Genesis.
interesting, thanks!
