"I’m starting to change my opinion of Trump, with this sort of bottom-of-the-barrel pandering." This is the way he's always been...he'll promise anything. I guarantee you he ramped it up in response to Branstad saying Cruz has to be taken out.
Now he's boasting that serious establishment types are ready to get behind him. Like Levin said yesterday, the GOPers who gave rise to Trump are the very ones he wants to schmooz and make deals with.
