I love it when reporters ask college students history or civics questions. The answers are often hilarious, if not disturbing. I’ll bet half don’t know the decade the Civil War was fought. I’ve even hear 1950’s from a few of these drones.
I’d like to see reporters being asked questions about history and civics. I think the results would be very revealing.
In one survey I read about in the 90s, a crop of the “educated” were asked to name Civil War battles. Among the answers: Little Big Horn and World War 2!
Just in case you think there is a chance this nation will endure along comes some bit of info like this. 1 in 10 folks of college students is a huge number of supposed informed smart individuals. It also seems representative of the bottom number, probably much high, of individuals who should not be getting into college and or borrowing money for it.
I have spoken to recent graduates who could not correctly answer more than one out of ten questions that were on my eighth grade history final and they were history MAJORS!
