America responded by fighting the whole of Islam across the mid east and inviting them to resettle here. As much as I admire Reagan, this was the wrong time to "liberate" Islamists from the Communists just as it was for Carter to relinquish support for the Shah of Iran. Both Bush's are assholes for dragging us into wars among Islamists for the benefit of the Saudis. Clinton is an asshole for not retaliating for attacks against Americans and its military abroad. Obama is an asshole for being a Muslim. Its tough being led by decision makers not acting in our interests.
Iran and Afghanistan are examples that civilization does not always progress. Islam is the most regressive force in the world today. If it is not resisted, defeated, and destroyed it will drag the civilized word back to the dark ages.
